THE NEED FOR VISION

As I consider what to write that might inspire or awaken you I am drawn not to definitions but to story.

So many truths have come to life while hunting with my boys.  The truth of the need for vision was made vivid to me when elk hunting with son Danny.  We had worked hard to be above timberline at shooting light but after an hour or so of working the folds of the peak we had found no elk.  During a pause to rest, consider and snack we took time to glass to the south.  In a small open pocket over two miles to the south we spotted a few elk moving into the timber.

Our plans changed because of what we saw.  Down the mountain we went, onto the 4 wheelers, packed up camp, loaded up the truck, drove south, unloaded, cruised up another forest road, hiked up and across another mountain, set up and waited.  At dusk the elk we had seen came out of the timber.  Bang!  Vision made real.

The ability to see beyond allowed us to see what we were longing for.  What we saw determined our actions.  There is a need to see beyond the circumstances, beyond ourselves, beyond the anxieties and brokenness of our world.  Where is the hope?  Where is the strength and clarity needed to walk this ground well?  It is all where it has always been - in Jesus Christ.

"Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control.  At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.  But we see HIM..." ~ Hebrews 2:8b-9a.

Our binoculars enabled us to see beyond.  To bring into focus that which we sought.  Vision is learning to use the optics of faith that the temporal realities are seen through the lens of the eternal story of redemption hope and the Redeemer who sits at the right hand of the Father.

The vision optics of faith do not come natural or easy.  It will take intentional time, a steady hand and the desire to see.  And what we see will determine our actions.  Much time and distance may need to be travelled all based on that one glimpse.  That glimpse fuels desire and hope, it requires perseverance and effort.

Take the time needed to look beyond, to see life; circumstances, people, money and more as God sees them.  Take time to pray, listen, walk, read, worship.   If a trip is needed to reset your vision, to clean your optics, to focus on Christ - you are welcome on Uplift Mountain.
