JULY UPDATE

We get rain!

FIRE UPDATE

It has been quite a month as the Aspen acres fire has grown to over 100,00 acres and is now 67% contained.  We have not been any closer than 10 miles from the fire but the community and entire area has been affected for sure.

We had two of our bookings cancel due to smoke and fire concerns so that was a disappointment for us and for them.   The Lord has continued to protect and provide through this time.  We have started to get some rains - causing some problems for the burned areas - but overall it is a blessing.  Things are still very dry and we are trusting for a good fall season of ministry.  Thanks to so many of you who reached out to us during this time.

Long time friend Miss Anne from GA (left) came for a visit and brought her friends Emily and Charlie with her. Heidi and I were able to join them on a hike in the big mountains.  We enjoyed some good times with them as they enjoyed the mountain.

A group of musicians and poets came together to put on a "Day of the Cowboy" show in Westcliffe. They brought music and fellowship to the mountain.

WE WORK

We are doing a fair bit of cleaning these days.  For the last 38+ years we have operated out of the small closet under the stairs of the lodge big room.  We took the time to clear out, paint and redo what we call the "Office Room" to become the housing supply room.  It is an amazing improvement and makes cleaning ALMOST fun.

Dad and I both noticed many dead trees around the Thoreau cabin.  With fire and wind dangers at hand we decided to take on removing them.  With tractor, ropes and prayers, all went well.  Much cleanup is now in order but the job needed done.

The back deck on our house has been in bad shape for years.  We took the time to replace it.  It is Heidi's favorite morning spot.  And yes, dad is 90 years old and still doing that!

WE PLAY

  • Even with the smoke, road closures and fire restrictions we gathered as a family to celebrate the amazing country we are blessed to call home.  A water ballon fight at the park was followed with food and activities at Zach & Amy's home.  Uncle Dan and nephew Arthur are especially patriotic!

  • Heidi & I were able to get away to explore a new area on the ATV.

  • We attended the local rodeo.   It was cold and wet but memories were made!

  • All 7 grands were there to celebrate Lydias' 4th birthday.  We are thankful indeed.

We were not able to shoot off fireworks but Zach and his visiting brother Ethan devised an air compressor powered glow stick launcher that did the job!

Our new focus of ministry is being affirmed in many ways.  Thanks for prayers, support, love and encouragements!
